grid failure means the lights go out and the fridge and ???

Blackout NYC 2003

The Only Light in Town

The Only Light in Town

  • Grid Failure means the lights go out! And the fridge and the heat and the water. It means we are pushed back into the early 19th century. We can't buy gas, the pumps run on electricity.  You can't go to the bathroom because the pumps at the local treatment plant run on electricity.

  • Here is what happened in 2003 https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Northeast_blackout_of_2003   History is fact, not fiction.

  • The fear of Grid Failure is real and it is eminent.  Most of the fear and information is actually published by the power industry. They know they have problems.  See report https://www.nerc.com/pa/RAPA/ra/Reliability%20Assessments%20DL/NERC_SRA_2022.pdf

  • Actually, we have been nothing but lucky. Most of these power outages have been resolved in a few days, or weeks,  a month or more in some places.  But, what happens if we get the 100 year or 500 year flood of Grid Failure?  What will you do when the outages last for months and months?  You will clean out the fridge in a week or 10 days.  Your backup Generac needs about  1000 gallons of fuel every two weeks.  Natural gas stops flowing in a few weeks.

At howtoDIYsolar..com we believe that individual, private solar generation is the answer.  The perfect solution is a hybrid that both supplies the grid, if you are  altruistic, and has battery backup when the blackouts happen.  DIY, do it yourself because most commercial installers don't give you the opportunity to use your own power when the grid is down.  Learn More at howtoDIYsolar.com

The Only Light in Town

The Only Light in Town

The Only Light in Town

The Only Light in Town is a house in the forest supplied by solar power from a Sunchaser 8 Dual Axis

Now it's thirteen weeks into the current power outage and your neighbors and friends and in-laws seem to be getting closer.  Why?  Because you have the only lights in town.

Your friends scoffed at you when you expressed your concerns over the national failure of the power companies to upgrade the grid.  Even though, the power companies were the one's publishing the reports and studies about eminent, it's going to happen, grid failure.

Your next door neighbor complained to the town that your solar tracker would cast shadows on his tomatoes. That, even after you explained and filed for permits using transparent solar panels that allows the light to pass through.  And, the shadow if using conventional solar tracker panels would only occur in early evening when the tomatoes don't care.

Your in-laws told you that you were foolish to invest in a solar tracker because all the commercial installers don't recommend them.  They claim they are too expensive.  And called you an idiot for going to battery backup.  You are stupid, the power will only be off for a few hours......They were in your spare room when the natural gas system went down in week 3.  No heat, no light, no water, no refrigeration, a tough way to exist.

Thank you for doing your own thinking and research.

At howtodiysolar.com we applaud your DIY do it yourself spirit.  We thank you for looking at our Sunchaser 8 Dual Axis Solar Tracker with an open mind.  We are here to support you in any way we can to achieve our mutual goals.

We believe that individual, privately owned solar generation will be the long term solution to the energy crisis threatening all of us who use electricity today.
